Robert Kristensen
was born on July 22, 1948. In 1968 he began his martial arts with the
Special Services during his tour of duty with the Armed Forces. After
his honorable discharge, he began Goju Ryu Karate from one of the foremost
Sensei in that style in the world. Teruo Chinen Sensei who had learned Goju
Ryu from it’s founder O’Sensei Miyagi. Kyoshi Kristensen trained and
received a Ni-Dan from Chinen Sensei. Upon hearing about Isshin-Ryu, Bob began training with Dale Jenkins in the mid-seventies. When Shihan Jenkins passed away he continued his training with other higher ranks. He joined the IWKA in 1986 and began training under Bill Duessel in 1990. He taught, trained, and competed – earning the nickname “Shuto”! |
Moving from New
Jersey in 1991, he turned his school of 250 students over to other Black Belts.
He served as the Vice President of the Sussex County Karate Kai.
Arriving in Texas, Sensei Kristensen began teaching at various KinderKare
locations at times with over 500 children at various functions and classes. The
first main Dojo was at the V.F.W. who helped him because of Vietnam and being a
Veteran. Soon he found a location and had his own Dojo in Coppell, Texas. That
Dojo has remained the Honbu Dojo until the beginning of the year when we moved
into a very modern location near to there. He currently has 9 dojo's under his
guidance and has traveled extensively throughout the world teaching and
training.
