Reese Rigby
started his karate training in 1969 under Sensei Doug Hastings who he
trained for two years in Dover, Delaware. He continued his training under
Sensei Tom Lewis in Salisbury, Maryland. He has been teaching at his own
school since 1973, and was a successful competitor in the Delmarva
tournament circuit in the 1970's and 1980's. In 1986, he met and started
training with Grand Master Angi Uezu. He traveled to Okinawa in 1992 and
again in 1995 to train with Master Uezu. In 1994, Master Rigby started teaching Isshin-Ryu Karate full-time, and currently has an enrollment of approximately 300 students. In 1996, Grand Master Uezu appointed him to co-Vice President of the O.I.K.K.A. along with Master John Devine. Grand Master Uezu promoted Rigby to Hachi Dan (8th degree) Black Belt in January 2003. |
Mr. Rigby’s lifelong goal has been to live and teach the art of Isshin-Ryu karate-do exactly as Grand Master Uezu. He has served as co-vice president of the Okinawan Isshin-Ryu Karate and Kobudo Association (O.I.K.K.A) since 1996. Courtesy. Respect. Discipline. Patience. These words are inscribed on the wall of Rigby’s Karate Academy, and is instilled in all his students.
