Isshin-Ryu Hall of Fame

Dennis Wright

Inducted in 2005

Mr. Dennis Wright began training in Judo in 1957.  Through his first seven years, he also trained in Shotokan and Kung Fu.  In 1964, he discovered Isshin-Ryu and became a student of Master Don Nagle.  From his first day in class, he attracted Master Nagle's attention through is performance of stretching and the basic exercises.  His Kumite skills were exceptional.

Upon testing for Brown Belt, Master Nagle promoted Mr. Wright from Green Belt directly to Sho-Dan after watching his performance of Kata, and his Kumite skills with Green Belts through Black Belts.  He was the only student to ever be promoted directly to Black Belt from Green by Master Nagle.

Through the years, Mr. Wright became one of the pillars of the Bayonne Dojo.  He taught class, went to work, and then would return to the dojo after work to head for a tournament with other students.  He normally placed first in Kata and Kumite as well as winning the Grand Championship.
