Harry Acklin was a deputy sheriff
in the Detective Bureau of the Cuyahogu County Sheriff's Department. He has tried to
maintain a low profile in Isshin-Ryu. He once wrote, "I have the deepest
respect and appreciation for Master Tatsuo Shimabuku and his teachings, and I have tried
to pass them on as true as I could. Sensei Acklin visited the Master three times in Okinawa. On August 10, 1974, He accompanied Master Harold Long and several other Isshin-Ryu students to Okinawa to visit Master Shimabuku for the last time prior to the Master's untimely death. He has always been thankful for that visit. |
Sensei Acklin is an ex-Army paratrooper who started Isshin-Ryu as an exercise. His desire to perfect himself in the Shimabuku System led to years of study. When Angi Uezu first came to the United States, he lived with Sensei Acklin and trained and taught in his dojo for almost a year. Sensei Acklin has always stressed basics and katas with emphasis on execution as Master Shimabuku taught them.
Currently, Sensei Acklin does not operate a
dojo but acts as a consultant for his students who operate their own dojos.
